Position PurposeThe Senior Manufacturing Engineer is a technical leader responsible for driving continuous improvement, supporting new product development, and optimizing manufacturing systems, equipment, and processes. This role mentors other engineers, leads cross-functional initiatives, and ensures production efficiency, product quality, and cost reduction across the organization.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Serve as a strong technical leader with excellent communication and organizational skills. Mentor junior engineers and production staff in subject matter expertise and best practices.
- Collaborate with design engineering and operations to support new product introduction, ensuring manufacturability and process capability.
- Create and direct feedback to and from customer requirements and specifications to the production group for current and new products, facilitating the continuous improvement directive.
- Troubleshoot, research, and recommend repairs for discrepant or non-optimized parts to ensure product quality and process reliability.
- Work with QA and Production to determine process improvements and design metrics. Ensure compliance with industry-specific standards (e.g., ASTM, SPI, FDA, FAA, ITAR, ISO 13485/AS9100) and company policies.
- Lead significant-scale engineering efforts with cross-functional coordination, including ERP and PLM system development.
- Plan and manage work for self and others, develop and monitor project schedules, and establish Standard Operating Procedures for new and updated equipment and systems.
- Act as a vocal stakeholder in system development cycles, present technical solutions to customers, and facilitate feedback between customer requirements and production teams.
- Responsible for following all Vaupell policies and standard operating procedures and safety practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering (or equivalent). Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, or a related technical discipline, with proficiency in nonmetallic materials, manufacturing methods, and associated processes.
- Advanced proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 modeling, composites tooling and part design, and structural sizing.
- Advanced ERP and PLM systems knowledge, including CAD system management crossover.
- Ability to plan and execute work independently and for others, identifying and resolving risks proactively.
- Demonstrated experience working within highly regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., FDA, FAA, ITAR, or ISO 13485/AS9100).
- Candidate must be comfortable working hands‑on on the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to read, speak, understand and follow instructions in English.
- Must be able to wear and properly use the required personal protective equipment.
Candidates must be a “US Person” (i.e., US Citizen or Permanent Resident) to ensure Vaupell's compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations).
Environmental ConditionWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
