Job Description

We are hiring two 3‑hour per day, 180 days per year, Para educator positions at the Community Based Transition Center. This position does not include medical or dental benefits. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the classroom with students that have challenging behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in the high school or post‑high school age students with functional needs.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under the teacher’s direction, administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding, toileting, proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use of specific equipment related to their disability (e.g., materials, assistive technology, visual aids).
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well‑being.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee’s skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned work site and regularly work hours specified.
  • May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs.
  • Other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
  • Ability to strengthen job‑related competencies.
Education / Certification
  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following requirements:
