Investigative & Business Reporter

North Sound Media (NSM) is a family-owned media company accepting applications for a full-time Everett Post reporter with a focus on investigative and business journalism. This reporter will own a clearly defined geographic and institutional “beat,” operating primarily on foot within Everett’s Central Business District. This reporter will utilize their instincts and skills to pursue accountability while identifying and creatively sharing stories unique to the North Sound region (Greater Snohomish County).

This is a high-visibility role. The reporter will appear regularly on our partner radio stations and will become one of the public faces of the Everett Post.

• City of Everett government (policy, budgeting, development, infrastructure)
• Port of Everett
• Snohomish County PUD
• Paine Field (economic, aviation, infrastructure impacts)
• Downtown Everett business, development, employers, and institutions
• Regional economic and workforce issues impacting Everett
• Major public-interest investigations tied to governance, public funds, or institutional performance

• Find great stories that are highly readable and contribute to our goals
• Use social media platforms to help distribute and highlight work
• Use SEO intelligently and strategically; understand other audience-growth processes
• Understand and use audience metrics to help increase readership
• Shoot photos and video when needed
• Skillfully use content management systems
• Use data and research to inform reporting

• Experience: At least five years of experience at a news gathering organization
• Education: College degree or equivalent work experience
• Solid news judgment, experience with AP writing style, excellent grammar and journalism ethics
• An intuitive sense of what’s relevant and interesting to audiences on all platforms
• A deep curiosity and high energy to produce two to four stories each day
• A commitment to diverse coverage through community engagement and source building
• A collaborative work ethic and the ability to communicate easily with our team and across the company
• Proficient in technology, including Word Press, content management systems and storytelling tools
• Ability to quickly and accurately research and verify the authenticity of information, sources, photos and video.
• Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance required
