The Department of Corrections is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Mail Process Driver at Cedar Creek Corrections Center in Littlerock, Washington. This facility is a 480-bed minimum-security male facility that offers rehabilitation, work, and vocational programs to prepare incarcerated individuals to transition back into the community. Responsibilities (Duty and Tasks)
  • Screen/process all incoming or outgoing first class and bulk mail, periodicals, packages, and electronic messages.
  • X-ray and visually scan mail items for contraband, explosives, illegal narcotics, and conformity to policies.
  • Log, open, and inspect mail for incarcerated individuals to ensure compliance with policies; remove and document enclosures (e.g., Social Security cards, birth/marriage certificates, , etc.).
  • Document and enter all incoming inmate packages and publications; place approved items into mail slots or delivery containers.
  • Determine effective methods for sending mail items out of the facility and complete mail rejections for items not meeting policy.
  • Read and process electronic messages in accordance with laws, rules, policies, and guidelines; process mail accordingly.
  • Identify, catalogue, and report contraband and non-compliant mail/electronic messages; initiate contraband mail rejections and infractions as needed.
  • Deliver and collect mail and packages, including bulk, insured, registered, certified, and regular mail; maintain mailroom records and operate equipment for screening, mailing, and shipping.
  • Log and create mail rejections, publication rejections, incoming property receipts, funds, and other related records; ensure accurate delivery to appropriate offices or units; conduct secure deliveries of sensitive items/evidence as required.
  • Conduct customer service for DOC staff, outside agencies, and the public; respond to inquiries and resolve complaints from incarcerated individuals and their families; assist with formal resolutions as delegated.
  • Operate motorized vehicles for mail delivery and collection; use hand trucks or dollies to transport materials; maintain security, order, and cleanliness of the mailroom.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or incident command.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of office and/or clerical experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic level computer skills with Microsoft Office or similar programs
  • Ability to perform office tasks requiring knowledge of regulations, policies, procedures, and processes

Preferred:

  • One (1) year of experience sorting and distributing mail
  • One (1) year of experience operating mail processing equipment
  • Experience using electronic mail processing software (e.g., JPay)
  • Experience using Offender Management Network Information (OMNI)
