Job Title: Youth Crew
Location: Everett, Massachusetts
Position Type: Part‑time/Seasonal:
May through October
Pay Rate: $17/hour
Hours: up to 10 hours per week during May to June and September to October; 10‑15 hours during July and August (most of the weeks where weather doesn’t allow for outdoor activities will have fewer hours that week)
Reports to: Agricultural Operation Manager
Position SummaryECG operates a community garden and an urban farm (located along the Northern Strand Community Trail). Since 2018, our Youth Crew has supported the growth of our farms, where we grow and sell organic produce and conduct community outreach and engagement activities centered in racial, economic, and environmental justice.
Essential Functions- Farm Operations
- Participate in food production: planting, harvesting, weeding, watering, etc.
- Track all harvested produce: weigh and document all harvested produce, whether donated or sold
- Ensure farm site is clean, inviting and visually pleasing
- Farm Sales
- Actively participate in preparation tasks for any farm sales, including preparing harvest for sale, setting up and breaking down the farm stand, greeting and assisting customers, and operating the cash register and handling payments
- Community Outreach and Engagement
- Represent ECG positively in the community: attend community events, assist with ECG workshops and events
- Work to build community involvement with ECG: conduct community outreach, make connections between ECG and other community organizations, etc.
- Participate in local and regional partnerships, workshops and trainings
- Participate in team projects as they arise
- Staff and Organizational Development:
- Adhere to time, attendance and communications policies
- Track all hours and activities in a timely manner
- Actively participate in workshops
- Between the ages of 14 to 20
- Live in Everett OR confirm involvement in Everett community
- Enthusiasm for urban agriculture (i.e., farming and gardening in an urban setting, like Everett)
- A commitment to making sure everyone has access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food, no matter their income, race, or where they live
- A commitment to making sure everyone can communicate and be understood, no matter what language they speak
- A commitment to making sure people of all races have fair opportunities and support
- Willingness to learn and try new things
- Confirmed ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Be able to work assigned hours, especially during farm shifts assigned by the Agricultural Operations Manager
- Bilingual candidates fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole highly preferred
- Experience in gardening, farming, or agricultural work preferred
- Experience in and passion for community outreach preferred
- Experience being part of a team preferred
- Must have the capability to repeatedly lift and move weight that ranges from 30 to 50 pounds and work outdoors in the summer
- Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends (workday may not end at the same time every day)
- Must be able to travel within Everett frequently.
