Position: 9-12 ESL Teacher
9-12 ESL Teacher

DESCRIPTION:

High School English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers are responsible for implementing

research-based second language acquisition strategies to teach English Learners in grades 9-12 in ESL classrooms. Teachers will utilize district curricula for standalone ESL classes that include common quarterly assessments. Teachers will be responsible for the progress monitoring of ELs and communicating with English Learner families. ESL Teachers at Everett High School are responsible for attending weekly department meetings with the Assistant Director of English Learners, Grades 9-12 to examine formative assessments and collaborate with ESL teacher peers, in addition to sheltered content teacher peers, to increase EL participation and academic achievement.

Teachers should be well-versed in Next Generation ESL and WIDA 2020 frameworks, cultural responsiveness, to promote equity, and to differentiate for a diverse population of ELs, including SLIFE and ELs with Disabilities.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, ESL and/or Applied Linguistics
  • Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in ESL
  • SEI Endorsement
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's Degree in Education and/or Applied Linguistics
  • 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in teaching Newcomer English Learners
  • Dual Licensure in Special Education
  • Experience working in an urban public school setting
  • Expertise with ESL and bilingual education teaching methodologies
  • Proficiency in a Second Language
DUTIES:
  • Provide individualized English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Language
  • Learners in accordance with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and WIDA 2020 standards.
  • Plan effective ESL units of study and lessons that align with WIDA and Massachusetts
State Frameworks.
  • Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally and linguistically relevant instructional practices.
  • Plan and participate in data collection and analysis to identify target areas of EL Success Plans, instruction, and small group work.
  • Collaborate and co-plan with grade-level co-teachers, including classroom teachers and Special Education inclusion teachers, to provide the highest quality instruction and support for English Learners.
  • Proctor MCAS and ACCESS assessments for English Learners.
  • Assist in EL paperwork management and compliance measures set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility.
  • Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
  • Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum that promote self-confidence, team-building, and informed decision-making.
  • Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.
  • Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
  • Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of social-emotional support.
  • Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events, which may be assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Implement the newly selected HQIM/ curriculum with fidelity to ensure equity and student
outcomes

SALARY:

Based on the Everett Teachers Association salary scale. SY 25-26 - Pay Range - $63,280-$121,994.

WORKING TIME:

The length of the workday will be 7:45- 2:45 PM.
