Incumbent is responsible for ensuring the day to day operation of the pool facility runs smoothly.
DUTIES
- Assists the Sports Director and Summer Aquatics Supervisor in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating part time aquatic staff.
- Assists the Sports Director and Summer Aquatics Supervisor in implementation of policies, procedures, and safety rules for pool personnel and the general public.
- Prepares work schedules for staff, assigns instructors for lessons, and guards for rentals.
- Oversees staff personnel records including time-sheets, discipline, certifications, in-service training, substituting, evaluations, etc.
- Prepares accident and incident records and reports.
- Makes daily bank deposits and delivers receipts and revenue paperwork to the Parks Department Office.
- Effectively communicates with all levels of the operation, including, but not limited to Parks Superintendent, Pool Operator, Pool Managers, etc.
- Assists the Aquatics Supervisor in monthly in-service meetings for part-time pool employees.
- Collaborates with the Swim Team Coordinators to assist with swim coaches and swim meets, as needed.
- Reacts quickly and decisively in an emergency, and to take charge.
- Solves problems fairly, calmly, and openly while maintaining efficiency and effectiveness of program offering.
- Communicates both verbally and in writing; creates effective working relationships with employees and the public.
- Listens to subordinates, supervisors, and colleagues and act upon their suggestions or directives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Incumbent should possess a high school diploma plus one (1) year of aquatics supervisory experience.
Incumbent must be available to work a variety of shifts, not to exceed 39 hours per week, including weekdays and weekends.
Incumbent must hold or be able to obtain the following certifications to ensure current program offerings and safe operation of the pool:
• Red Cross (Or comparable) Lifeguard Management Certification
• Red Cross (Or comparable) CPR/First Aid/AED
DIFFICULTY OF WORK
Incumbent performs duties which are broad in scope involving many variables or considerations when making decisions. Judgment is needed in selecting the most pertinent guidelines in interpreting or adapting formulas, methods and procedures to fit facts and conditions.
RESPONSIBILITY
Works under moderate supervision with incumbent reporting to Summer Aquatics Supervisor.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Incumbent works with departmental employees, other city departments, and the general public to explain and interpret services, carry out policies and maintain coordination.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent performs majority of work at the pools, with occasional times spent in an office, and working with the Pool Operator to inspect the equipment and pool facilities. Incumbent will be regularly exposed to pool chemical and hot/humid conditions.
