Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for the Plumber position. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Occasional overtime or irregular hours may be required to meet business needs. Travel within the University and occasional travel to offsite University locations using a University vehicle is required. Occasional regional travel is required.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform plumbing tasks related to maintenance, repairs, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, and systems.
- Assemble and install valves and fittings.
- Install, repair, and maintain sinks, tubs, and toilets.
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, appliances, and trim.
- Install, repair, and maintain water heaters and water conditioners.
- Install, repair, and maintain underground storm, sanitary, and other water piping systems.
- Install, repair, and maintain water treatment equipment, piping, and controls.
- Test piping systems and fixtures for leaks.
- Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance meet applicable codes.
- Assist with water fountains and swimming pool maintenance (additional off-campus education and certification may be required).
- Perform preventive and general maintenance for the University's structures, equipment, furnishings, and systems; support repair and rehabilitation projects.
- Read from blueprints, drawings, work orders, or oral instructions to construct and repair University assets.
- Plan and execute basic building maintenance and renovation projects, including task determination, layouts, and estimating materials and labor costs.
- Assemble furniture, seats, and other equipment; set up furniture and equipment for special and academic events.
- Perform carpentry, electrical, and related maintenance tasks as needed for buildings, equipment, furniture, and systems.
- Repair and/or install windows, doors, partitions, trim components, flooring, and roofing elements.
- Perform hand and bench work in maintenance shops; operate related tools and equipment.
- Perform painting, refinishing, and related work on buildings, furniture, and fixtures.
- Assist in maintaining building supplies, tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Perform snow removal and paving work as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED required. Vocational training and/or experience in trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and/or heating and air conditioning; knowledge of practices, procedures, materials, and tools; ability to plan and lay out job assignments; and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Knowledge and SkillsFour years of journey-level experience in a described trade is preferred.
