Counter Representative

Counter Representative – American Welding & Gas (Full‑time, Evansville, IN)

American Welding & Gas, Inc. has an immediate opening for a full‑time Counter Representative at our Evansville, IN location. The primary responsibility is to assist customers with purchasing and ordering gases and welding/industrial supplies, while maintaining inventory, hardgoods, and performing other store duties.

• Assist customers in store and by phone to purchase and order products
• Handle cylinder returns, exchanges and purchases
• Handle cash and charge account transactions, reconcile cash, credit card, and charge transactions, and close end‑of‑day cash drawers
• Conduct branch collection activities and customer retention calls
• Assist manager with opening and closing the store each day, including securing cylinders, locking all areas, and setting alarms
• Monitor inventory levels, check in and put away inventory
• Receive freight and create bar‑code labels with part numbers
• Schedule deliveries and service calls
• Support outside sales team
• Follow and comply with all company safety policies
• Work with store manager to achieve/surpass budgeted sales projections while maintaining expenses within parameters to achieve profitability
• Assist manager with building and equipment maintenance
• Perform some after‑hour deliveries
• Other duties as assigned

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Class B CDL with Hazmat endorsement or ability to obtain requirements
• Clean driving record
• Ability to read and write English
• Ability to move compressed gas and liquid cylinders: lift 50‑75 pounds frequently and maneuver 100+ pound cylinders (rolling, using a cart, etc.)
• Successful completion of pre‑employment drug screen, DOT physical, back assessment, and company‑administered road test
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers
• Experience in sales or customer service is a plus
