Job SummaryPet Smart’s Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and best in class salon services. This position will receive training and guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams, learning proper grooming techniques. This role also supports store cleanliness, recommends solutions for pet parents, and upholds the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy.
Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained once the associate has successfully completed the Pet Smart Grooming Academy.
Essential Responsibilities- Under supervision, perform full menu of bath, brush and grooming services and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) following Pet Smart’s bathing standards and procedures.
- Develop safe technical skills that meet or exceed the company’s minimum expectations.
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to Pet Parents based on the pet’s needs.
- Be responsible for the pet parent experience and outcomes in person, over the phone, and at the sales register.
- Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist with making salon reservations.
- Conduct salon appointment reminder calls, maintain client records, and consult with pet parents on services offered.
- Perform check-in and check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including applicable paperwork and rebooking.
- Promote opportunities to grow salon sales to help achieve sales targets and productivity; support any other relevant salon metrics.
- Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise and services.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for all pets in the grooming area; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning per the maintenance checklist.
- Take immediate action if a sick or injured pet is identified; transport to the vet as needed.
- Assist in other departments as required; other duties may be assigned.
- Participate in the culture of Belonging and Recognition.
- Follow all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Successful completion of Pet Smart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program.
- Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Flexibility in schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc. Reach with hands and arms; may stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk and hear. Depth perception required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally team lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Depth perception required.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet environment with pet hair; moderate to high noise levels; exposure to live animals.
