The Trauma Performance Improvement Clinician (PI RN) works in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Manager (TPM) to improve the quality of trauma care to injured patients from the prehospital setting through the hospitalization to discharge and recovery. The Clinician collaborates with the entire multidisciplinary team to review the performance and safety of the Trauma Program and coordinates activities to evaluate issues, promote event resolution, and enhance clinical outcomes.
The Clinician utilizes advanced education; expert clinical skills and practice to monitor patient progress and assure patient needs are matched with appropriate resources. The Clinician must be able to demonstrate knowledge of growth and development to coordinate patient care appropriate to the age of patients served. This role will require additional responsibilities related to promotion of trauma standards of care according to nationally accepted American College of Surgeon’s (ACS) guidelines.
The Clinician must use evidence-based practices when providing care and have good understanding and knowledge of Deaconess Trauma guidelines. The Clinician leads quality and safety priorities for the trauma patient population in partnership with unit leadership and the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.
- BSN required or education plan in place to obtain within agreed timeframe. Two years of recent clinical experience in trauma/emergency/pre hospital/critical care.
- Must be a registered nurse licensed in Indiana. Current certification and preferred Instructor in at least (2):
Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) &/or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Care for Nurses (ATCN), Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) &/or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC). Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) &/or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification is preferred. Instructor status of TNCC, ATCN, TNS are preferred.
