Operates cranes to move products, equipment, or materials to and from quarries, storage areas, yards, and barges or to load and unload trucks, barges or railroad cars by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Performs pre-shift inspections
- Offloads barges
- Proper rigging of loads
- Proper use of lifting charts
- Maintains a smooth disposition of operation
- Keeps working area clean
- Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects of malfunctions
- Cleans, maintains, and lubricates equipment
- Assists with conveyor, crane, clean up tractor and winch maintenance
Oversees crane helper or clean‑up person
QUALIFICATIONS- Excellent hand eye coordination
- Knowledge of lifting charts and international hand signals
- Knowledge of river activities with the ability to deal with changing river conditions
- Must like repetitive work
One year certificate from college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk or hear; sit; stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORKENVIORNMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; vibration; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
