Overview
SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the laboratory director, Dr. Carskadon, and the daily direct supervision of the project coordinator, the role of the Sleep Research Assistant (SRA) is to perform a variety of duties including form preparations, various recruitment duties, interactions with participants and their families, and other duties necessary to perform research projects. - Essential interaction with research participants and their families; participants can include children, adolescents, and adults; information encountered or collected must remain confidential, accurate, and treated with meticulous attention to detail.
- Attend study planning meetings and participate in participant recruitment activities (writing and placing advertisements, brochures, flyers; conducting telephone interviews; screening research volunteers and their families).
- Prepare materials for in-lab studies (organizing protocols, forms, supplies, orientation materials, and related items in advance of study).
- Perform structured interviews with research participants and their families.
- Perform procedures involved with the collection of continuous activity recordings (initializing, downloading, and scoring actigraph data according to standard protocols).
- Participate in data entry and error checking.
- Contribute to preparing and keeping current materials for the Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects.
- Demonstrate exceptional "people skills" with enthusiasm, organization, creativity, and determination.
- Maintain a flexible schedule during certain studies that may require activities in evenings or on weekends; personal transportation is required to pick up equipment or participants from their homes.
- Assist other teams when projects require additional attention; orientation sessions or laboratory tours with participants and families may require extended or weekend hours.
- Bachelor's degree in any of the life sciences.
- Experience working with human volunteers and human participant recruitment. Familiarity with data/data file management, computer data management programs, and Macintosh computers is a plus. Additional training is provided.
- Independent action – Performs independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
Pay Range: $19.97-$32.96
