Role summary:
The Business Performance Coordinator is a member of the FP&A team within bp's Finance Business & Technology organization, supporting the delivery of business planning and performance management products for the oil and gas business. The role involves collaborating with local technical and finance teams to develop financial products that enable effective decision making, gaining a deep understanding of the business context to provide insightful management information.
The incumbent may work under alternative shift arrangements to ensure overlap hours with Eastern Standard Time. Travel requirements: 10–15%, including international travel.
- Performance Management:
Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful financial and management information to empower strategic business decisions. Conduct monthly/quarterly actuals analysis, including trend analysis and variance explanations, to provide actionable insights. Identify areas where performance meets or misses key targets and drive continuous improvement. - Business Planning:
Contribute to the long-term regional strategic plan and support quarterly planning, including capital and cash cost forecasts, production forecasts, and key financial outcomes. Collaborate with stakeholders to refine activity sets, input assumptions, and generate accurate forecasts. - Insights:
Use SAP-based systems to submit plan data and leverage Power BI for detailed analysis and reporting. Create engaging presentations, provide commentary, and address follow-up questions from leadership and central finance teams. - Continuous Improvement:
Promote standardized systems and automate financial products, moving toward a self-service model in financial analysis and reporting. - Cross-team integration:
Collaborate with peers across geographies to earn trust, share context, and establish effective ways of working; contribute to a positive working culture and staff development within bp.
Must Have Educational Qualifications
- Business/Finance or Technical Field Degree level or equivalent.
Preferred Education/certifications
- Master’s Degree in finance (e.g., MBA, CA, ICWA).
Minimum Years Of Relevant Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant post-degree experience in financial reporting, planning and control.
Must Have Experiences/skills (To Be Hired With)
- Proven experience in developing and communicating financial management information to business partners.
- Proficiency in Excel, SAP, economic models, and visualization tools such as Power BI. Python coding experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with handling large quantities of sophisticated data.
- Basic understanding of the energy industry, including commercial drivers, value sources, and competition; direct oil and gas experience preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, particularly with digital systems and tools.
- Highly analytical with ability to develop trends and insights from data.
- The FP&A organization within bp, collaborating with local finance teams and technical/leaders in onsite locations; regular interaction with Business/Functions senior leadership.
