The teacher assistant is a member of the teaching team who supports the head teacher in providing care and education of an assigned group of children. The teacher assistant is responsible for helping with the implementation of The Creative Curriculum along with its system of assessment and documentation; assisting with the supervision of children and the communication with parents; working together to provide a healthy and safe environment for children that encourages social emotional, physical, cognitive and language development based on the Reggio Approach.
When the head teacher is absent, the teacher assistant assumes all duties.
- Works with head teacher to establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment
- Works with head teacher to advance physical and intellectual competence
- Works with head teacher to support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance
- To establish positive and productive relationships with families
- To ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participant needs
- To maintain a commitment to professionalism
- CDA credential with some teaching experience in an early childhood program preferred and the willingness to start a program to obtain an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education within six months of employment.
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education a plus.
- Must acquire 20 hours of professional development annually.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification and NAEYC Membership preferred.
