Position SummaryAssist in the daily operations of the University Archives and Special Collections (UASC) by supporting digitization projects, metadata creation, unit promotion and providing assistance to researchers and visitors.
Duties/Responsibilities- Assist in digitizing university records and special collections, including manuscript and media collections, and develop metadata for digital records.
- Support social media and web presence efforts by collaborating with student assistants to develop engaging online material for blogs and library websites.
- Provide reference and instructional services in the UASC by responding to researchers and visitors in person, via telephone, and email, serving university students, faculty, staff, news media and the general public.
- Assist the University Archivist and Library Associate in creating exhibits and supporting civic organizations using UASC materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Working knowledge of computer software, scanners, digital cameras, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and photo‑editing programs such as Photoshop.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to serve and communicate with a diverse group of individuals, including USI faculty, students, and staff.
- Ability to interpret written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Flexibility to manage change effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Independent work capability and self‑motivation.
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of library software systems preferred.
- Awareness of archival standards, digitization processes, cataloging standards, and library operations preferred.
- Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week during unit operating hours (8:00 am–6:00 pm, Monday–Friday).
- Occasional extended hours, evenings, or weekends may be required.
- Some travel may be required.
