Senior Sourcing Specialist

Overview

CenterPoint Energy is seeking talented individuals to fill a Senior Sourcing Specialist role in Utility categories within their Supply Chain department.

The Senior Sourcing Specialist leads the development and execution of highly complex, holistic, enterprise-wide category strategies, including strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, rapid sourcing/negotiation and risk management. Develops, implements and maintains proactive strategies for assigned categories creating spend leverage across CenterPoint Energy’s footprint. The position negotiates work scopes and pricing with vendors and develops contracts using established protocols as defined by the company.

Engages all levels of the organization, including senior staff, to develop and execute sourcing strategies. Serves as subject matter resource and formally or informally mentors other Sourcing Specialists.

• Develop, implement, and manage strategies and plans to support the Strategic Sourcing process for assigned commodities/services in alignment with the internal client.
• Provide category expertise to internal clients through spend analytics, market research and cost modeling.
• Leverage industry knowledge and technology to establish should cost models, identify opportunities for spend leverage, and drive supplier negotiations.
• Actively monitor industry trends and best practices related to category assignments and incorporate them into category and execution plans.
• Research and develop a working knowledge of the assigned commodities/services or areas of responsibilities, including how the commodities/services are made, rendered, specification requirements, and how the commodities/services are used by the Company.
• Ensure end user requirements are satisfied, develop change management activities, promote end user adoption, provide training and monitor end user satisfaction and needs.
• Ensure quality and stability of supply of materials/services, monitor the timeliness of the deliveries/performance, and identify patterns.
• Work with clients to formulate and define the scopes and objectives of procurement transactions.
• Provide expertise to ensure that Service Level Agreements meet the needs of the end‑user client area.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to lower the total cost of goods and services; provide supply planning and analysis; and conduct supplier performance and relationship management.
• Manage the procurement process to provide appropriate materials, supplies, and services for day‑to‑day requirements, as well as, emergent work, overhauls, and projects; focus on strategic procurement practices while conducting complex negotiations under aggressive timeline demands.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, Computer Science or other related discipline. Will consider relevant job‑related CenterPoint Energy experience for non‑degree candidates.

Experience: 5+ years of relevant work experience required in strategic sourcing with responsibilities for large, complex negotiations with vendors and a proven record of achieving bottom‑line savings for year‑over‑year sustainable cost reduction. Has experience with driving value through understanding market dynamics along with a working knowledge of category management principles.
