About BMAF:Black Mesa Advanced Fission specializes in research and development of Fission Generators (otherwise known as Expeditionary/Tactically Mobile Microreactors). BMAF is under contract to the U.S. Army to develop and test the prototype for a sub-100kWe Fission Generator which is a very small-scale system using nuclear energy technology (nano-scale reactor).
This position offers hands‑on experience working alongside experienced professionals on real‑world engineering projects. You will contribute to ongoing initiatives, develop technical and analytical analysis, and participate in a collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct design, fabrication, analysis, and testing of chemical processes, vacuum, and fluid systems
- Prepare process flow diagrams, P&IDs, reports, quality assurance, and documentation
- Develop chemical processes, vacuum/fluid systems, and materials selections in conjunction with other engineering disciplines
- Perform iterative process development and lab‑scale experimentation
- Support project teams with data collection, thermodynamic/kinetics calculations, testing equipment development, and process improvements
- Perform research and apply chemical engineering principles (e.g., mass/heat transfer, reaction engineering, etc.) to solve practical problems
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support product or process development
- Participate in project/design reviews and technical discussions
- Present findings and progress updates to supervisors or project leaders
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Chemical Engineering
- Previous intern work experience is a plus
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Proficient in engineering software/tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB, Python, Excel, etc.).
DESIRED
EXPERIENCE:
lab analysis tools (e.g., GC-MS, FTIR, rheometers), process simulation software, or nuclear materials handling - Practical engineer (e.g. experience with wet chemistry, glovebox operations, fluid handling (pumps/valves), distillation/precipitation, corrosion testing, safety protocols for hazardous materials, equipment maintenance, etc.)
