Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – The Alden Network
Location:
Evanston, IL
Base pay range: $36.00/hr – $40.00/hr
Job Summary- Provide direct nursing care to patients and supervise the daily nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local regulations, facility policies, and current standards.
- Current, unencumbered LPN license in Illinois and/or Wisconsin.
- CPR certification or ability to obtain it within two weeks of employment.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures.
- Interest and/or knowledge in the care of the aged.
- Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies and the general public.
- Leadership and supervisory ability, and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Personable, enthusiastic and resourceful.
- Move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Possess adequate sight/hearing or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
- Function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with customers, family members, personnel and support agencies.
- Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies and customers in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day.
- Be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the (HIV) AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
- Accept and support instructions directed by appropriate authority, performing multiple tasks as required.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct nursing operations for the assigned unit.
- Ensure all nursing procedures and protocols are followed in accordance with established policies.
- Directly supervise and instruct nurses and ancillary staff to promote job knowledge and adherence to policies.
- Ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures, including dress code.
- Assist in developing written care plans that identify each patient’s problems and needs.
- Attend and actively participate in patient care plan conferences as directed.
- Report all concerns or complaints made by patients or their families to the Administrator.
- Counsel or discipline nursing staff as necessary.
- Make daily rounds to ensure nursing personnel are performing required duties and that proper procedures are followed; conduct physical rounds to all patients daily and with physicians as required.
- Create and maintain a warm, personal, positive, and calm environment throughout the department.
- Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
- Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director of Nursing.
- Place orders for medications and treatments following established budgetary guidelines.
- Utilize PCC 24‑hour summaries for updates and recommendations related to patient care needs.
- Fill out complete accident and incident reports.
- Encourage physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.
- Chart nursing notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided and the patient’s response to care.
- Complete required assessments upon admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
- Receive telephone orders from physicians and record them on the Physician Order Form and POS.
- Record new or changed diet orders and forward information to the Dietary Department.
- Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established Charting and Documentation Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure completion of admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
