Job Description
Food Services workers – Patient Services are responsible for a variety of specialized duties related to the receipt, interpretation, and follow‑through of patient diet orders in hospital and long‑term care settings. They act as a liaison between the patient, the Food and Nutrition Services Department, and Nursing Services. The role includes assisting the manager with food/meal preparation, maintaining cash receipts and meal records, completing daily reports, and maintaining high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices.

Compensation:
Starting hourly rate $17 plus shift and weekend pay. Candidates must be available to work rotating weekends and holidays.

Evanston Hospital, Evanston, IL
- Delivers and collects patient trays during meal service and delivers nourishment and/or snacks to patients as ordered by physician/dietitian in a timely manner.
- Visits patients to introduce the services of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
- Obtains food preferences or dislikes from patients and/or family members.
- Communicates all patient food needs to the appropriate area of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
- Ensures that nutrition diet care orders are provided to the patient by offering appropriate menu selections.
- Maintains and adheres to all sanitation standards by following assigned cleaning schedules and completing other sanitation tasks as assigned by the Supervisor/Relief Supervisor.
- Inventories and restocks pantries, refrigerator, and freezers on assigned unit(s).
- Maintains temperature logs for unit refrigerators and freezers.
- Understands therapeutic diets using established protocols and seeks assistance from the Supervisor or Dietitian if an error is observed.
- Assists the clinical staff in ensuring all patients' basic nutrition care needs are met.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English. Bilingual abilities preferred but not required.
- Can lift, bend, push, pull, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Will wear uniforms and use personal protective equipment as required.
