The On‑Site Sub Instructor’s primary role is to act as a teaching assistant (TA) in the classroom of greatest need. On days when a CTD instructor is unexpectedly absent, the On‑Site Sub Instructor is the substitute instructor for their course, working with lesson plans and/or project guidelines provided by the instructor.
Program Hours & Pay- Class times: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, or all day 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. As an instructor, the workday includes a 12‑1 pm lunch break. TAs supervise students at lunch and recess.
- Instructors arrive by 8:30 am most days, 8:00 am on Wednesdays, and leave by approximately 4:30 pm (5:00 pm typical on Fridays).
- On days acting as a TA, $20 per hour.
- On days acting as a Substitute Instructor, $28 per hour.
- Each OSS will be hired for a specific site location (Evanston, Chicago, or Downers Grove).
- Evanston and Chicago:
June 29 – August 7. Locations to be announced in 2026. - Downers Grove:
Avery Coonley School, June 15 – July 24 (no programming June 19 th or July 3 rd). - Required training dates:
- Online synchronous training dates: TBD for Evanston and Chicago;
Downers Grove June 10. - Evanston and Chicago sites: in‑person training at Northwestern University, Evanston Campus:
June 25. - Site visits for staff week of June 22‑26.
- In‑person training at Northwestern University, Evanston Campus:
June 25 (unless working at Downers Grove, which will already be in session).
- Online synchronous training dates: TBD for Evanston and Chicago;
- Bachelor’s degree and experience teaching accelerated and/or compacted curricula.
- Master’s degree, at least three years of lead teaching and experience with twice‑exceptional students preferred.
- Previous CTD Instructor experience highly preferred.
- Strength and mobility to supervise active children in both classroom and outdoor settings.
- Learn and implement CTD policies and procedures.
- Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.
- Follow all CTD rules and regulations concerning staff conduct and appropriate dress.
- Assume program‑related responsibilities as requested by Site Coordinator and/or Program Coordinator, including attendance at online and/or onsite training sessions.
- Provide instructional support in collaboration with Instructor, including small group facilitation and individual support.
- Set up and clean up of classroom materials and technology.
- Document student participation and progress toward learning outcomes.
- Actively supervise students during breaks and transition times, including lunch and recess supervision.
- Substitute for Instructor, if necessary.
- Review student health notes and uphold confidentiality policies.
