Position: Outreach Coordinator, Office of Undergraduate Research (10 month term)

Salary/Grade: EXS/5

Target hiring range for this position will be between be $51,346 - $56,856. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

The Outreach Coordinator/Advisor serves as the primary outreach coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). The Coordinator/Advisor collaborates with departments and units, including student groups, to set up and conduct information sessions explaining OURs programs and how to get involved. The Coordinator/Advisor also serves as a primary advisor for students applying for OUR grant funding, working with students to help them find lab opportunities, develop research projects, and write grant proposals.

Assists with executing communications strategies, including flyering, drafting advertising, and leading content development and social media posting (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linked In).

Specific Responsibilities:

* Meets with students one-on-one to help them discern their interests in undergraduate research, guides them to appropriate programs, and works with them on developing their application materials. Advising will range from helping students to use existing resources to find lab placements to reviewing multiple drafts of grant proposals before a deadline. Leads workshops on proposal writing and the preparation of applications.

This work will be heaviest in winter quarter.

* Oversees all student outreach for the OUR, including working with different offices and student groups on campus to schedule and run information sessions about OUR opportunities (sessions take place in academic departments and units, with student groups, in residence hall, and in Greek life). Collaborates with other offices including the Office of Fellowships and the Library to create joint sessions and with the Office of Academic and Residential Services on all residential life events.

This work will be heaviest in fall quarter.

* Collaborates with office staff on implementing communications strategies. Work includes posting flyers on campus, submitting advertisements to partner listservs and digital screens on campus, collecting and writing/posting content for social media features (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linked In).

* Completes other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director, including support and planning for the annual Undergraduate Research and Arts Exposition

Minimum Qualifications:

(Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

* Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and training from which comparable skills may be acquired

* Experience with undergraduate research

Recent Northwestern graduate

Minimum

* Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to interact productively with faculty, administrative staff, and students

* Familiarity with the University's institutional structure and sensitivity to its mission

* Ability to handle confidential information appropriately, and to use good judgment in making decisions

* Service-oriented attitude to assisting staff, faculty and students

Experience doing research using the Web and other sources
