Overview

District 65 is looking for an instructional leader with a passion for being in an elementary school setting to become the assistant principal of Foster Elementary School. Foster is an elementary school serving students K-5. The new leader must establish and promote high expectations for all learners and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to explore, understand and celebrate the diversity that makes Foster a special school community.

Reporting and Role

Reporting to the Principal, the Assistant Principal assists with creating a safe learning environment and sets performance goals for students and teachers. The role involves putting systems in place to ensure those goals are attained. As the co-instructional leader of the school, the Assistant Principal supports an ambitious school-wide vision and goals aligned to the district's mission and strategic goals, and works with the principal to direct site operations, enforce policies and regulatory requirements, provide information, and serve as a resource to others within the school and the broader community.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Supports the Principal in setting an ambitious school-wide vision and goals, aligned to the District's mission and strategic goals, that prepare students for success in high school and post-secondary.
  • Serves as an instructional leader and helps implement sustainable systems and structures to guide instruction and support for students and to build a positive school culture and climate.
  • Supports a robust family and community engagement system and structure in the school community.
  • Evaluates and... evaluates licensed staff in accordance with the District 65 teacher evaluation model to improve instruction.
  • Supervises school personnel to monitor performance, provide professional growth, and achieve the school's curriculum objectives.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents to support students and improve school programs.
  • Supports the Principal in monitoring fidelity of curriculum implementation to ensure high-quality, rigorous instruction for all students.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Supports the management of school administrative functions (e.g., facility maintenance, budget, staffing) to maintain safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
  • Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g., staff evaluations, student activities, correspondence) for documenting activities and conveying information.
  • Represents the administrative team in the school and community forums to maintain ongoing support for educational goals and address issues related to the school environment.
  • Reviews instructional practices in classrooms on a regular basis to improve teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates special education program components to deliver services in alignment with policies and guidelines for IEP/504 compliance.
  • Manages building-based evaluation and IEP teams and serves as the Director's designee at most Child Review and IEP meetings.
  • Manages and coordinates school-based programs and special projects as directed by the Principal.
  • Uses data to guide decision-making.
  • Is present and engaged in all district and community meetings related to the school.
  • Communicates important updates to community stakeholders including students, staff, parents, and community partners.
  • Prioritizes inclusion of key stakeholders representing the school community in school decisions (parents from multiple racial/ethnic/linguistic groups).
  • Encourages a school-wide practice of cultural equity.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of teaching experience and two (2) years of school-level administrator experience at the assigned level of school is preferred.
  • Master's degree in Education or a related area
  • Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative and/or Principal endorsement
  • Teacher evaluator modules completed
  • Illinois Performance Evaluator Qualification (Teacher & Principal required)

Terms Of Employment

Twelve-month year (July 1 to June 30)
