The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. We are looking for someone who loves working with early elementary children, who takes direction well from (and collaborates with) others, who is warm and consistent, and more. This position is for up to 24 hours a week, including an optional opportunity to supervise aftercare up to two days per week.

Basic Functions

The teacher aide assists school personnel in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The teacher aide is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The teacher aide agrees to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago, as well as the policies and procedures of the local school. The principal will determine the specific assignment of the school aide.

The teacher aide cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

General Duties and Responsibilities
:

The duties of the school aide will include but are not limited to:

• Working with students individually or in small groups to review material and practice skills.
• Assisting with lesson preparation:
  Helping teachers gather materials, set up equipment, and prepare handouts.
• Providing individualized support:
  Helping students who need extra help with specific tasks or subjects.
• Supervising students:
  Monitoring student behavior during class, breaks, and transitions.
• Enforcing classroom rules:
  Helping to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
• Assisting with classroom organization:
  Helping to keep the classroom tidy and organized.

The principal assigns specific tasks essential to the function of the position.

Requirements
:

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet compliance of Safe Environment requirements.
• Must have respect for the Catholic faith.

This position has a rate of $16.00 per hour. An employee’s pay within the hourly range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
