Job SummaryReporting to the Associate Director of High-Impact Teaching who shapes the vision, the Assistant Director of STEM Education supports Pedagogy, Course Design & Delivery, Assessment & Curricular Change, Scholarship of Learning & Teaching, and Community & Vitality by setting goals, designing signature programs (e.g., University Practicum, Course Design & Delivery Institutes, OERs, Reading Circles/Retreats), and implementing strategic initiatives (e.g., STEM Teaching Excellence/CIRTL, STEM Education Transformation, SoTL, GAI, Customized Workshops) for instructors at all career stages.
This specialized educational development role expands the Center's expertise to advance its four strategic priorities with scholarly and innovative approaches.

Specific Responsibilities- Administration: Directs and leads development of program/project strategic plan. Oversees day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Operationalizes goals and objectives; ensures resources are created or obtained. Manages customer service; creates practices, procedures and metrics to measure success. Analyzes data and recommends changes to better ensure attainment of mission. Manages logistics requirements including facilities, venue, scheduling, technology, instruction, catering, etc.
- Budgets & Financial: Ensures program/project meets revenue and expense goals. Oversees daily, monthly and annual financial activities including transactions, analysis, and reporting. Approves funds reallocation within budget as necessary and appropriate.
- Communication, Outreach & Recruitment: Directs program/project marketing/branding efforts. Identifies and implements short- and long-term strategies to meet program/project goals. Engages in outreach and field relations supporting recruitment, participation, relationship building, and continued development. Builds relationships with program/project alumni to develop professional networks, financial resources, and a sense of community.
- Evaluation: Oversees development and implementation of evaluation processes and measurements to ensure benchmarks are attained and communicated timely. Manages evaluation processes; recommends and implements changes; monitors effectiveness through follow-up studies. Collaborates with internal/external resources to develop meaningful outcome measurements and methods of evaluation for enhancement.
- Events: Develops a comprehensive program of events such as lectures, symposia, speaker series, workshops, conferences and cultural events in collaboration with internal and external resources. Develops proposals and recruits faculty leaders for interdisciplinary groups and helps develop programming.
- Program Development: Manages ongoing development and refinement of curriculums and course offerings in consultation with subject matter experts. Provides leadership for planning, scheduling, delivering and maintaining programs/projects to sustain quality instruction. Ensures high standards across partner programs/projects (admissions, teaching, grading, service levels, facilities).
- Strategic Planning: Creates and leads a coordinated program of activities designed to increase program objectives.
- Supervision: Supervises 1-2 staff. Facilitates collaboration, messaging, use of data analytics to optimize participation, and policy transparency. Develops digital materials and asynchronous development opportunities; ensures accessibility and usefulness across Northwestern and beyond.
