Instructor Summer Academic Day Camps, PreK - Grade 5

Instructors plan and implement challenging and engaging courses with content one to two years above grade level based on course syllabi provided to them. As classroom leads, instructors supervise teaching assistants and are responsible for student course evaluations.

Course Duration and Pay

pay ranges are dependent upon CTD experience

One-Week Courses (Evanston and Chicago only)
  • Half-day courses: $725-$850

    • Expected on-site hours either ~8:30am-12:30pm or ~12:30pm-4:30pm

    • 8:00am start on Wednesdays for staff meeting

  • All-day courses: $1400-$1525

    • Expected on-site hours ~8:30am-4:30pm, closer to 5:00pm on Fridays

    • 8:00am start on Wednesdays for staff meeting

  • Student End-of-Course Evaluations

    • Due the following Friday after each class ends.

Two-Week Courses
  • Half-day courses (Downers Grove, only): $1,425 - $1,525

    • Expected on-site hours 8:30am-12:15pm

Locations and Program Dates
  • Downers Grove:
    June 15 - July 24 (no programming June 19th or July 3rd [tentatively])

  • Evanston and Chicago:
    June 29 - August 7 (no programming July 4th)

    • Instructors are hired for one-week courses. Instructors may work for 1-6 weeks within this time period based on staffing needs.
    • Chicago Site:
      South Loop Middle School, 1601 S Dearborn St, Chicago IL 60616
    • Evanston Site:
      St. Athanasius School, 2510 Ashland Ave, Evanston IL 60201
  • Required training dates:

    • Online synchronous training dates: TBD for Evanston and Chicago;
      Downers Grove June 10
    • Evanston and Chicago Sites:
      In-person training at Northwestern University, Evanston Campus:
      June 25
    • Evanston and Chicago Site visits for staff week of June 22-26
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus experience teaching accelerated and/or compacted curricula with differentiation.
  • Subject matter expertise as appropriate.
  • Strength and mobility to supervise active children indoors and on the playground, including the ability to run a short distance and lift a child weighing approximately 40 pounds.
  • Preferred:
    Master's degree, at least three years of lead teaching and experience with twice exceptional students preferred.
General Responsibilities
  • Design all course instructional activities based on provided syllabus, including appropriate differentiation and hands‑on projects.
  • Submit lesson plans to CTD for review and archiving according to program requirements. Lesson plans are typically due to CTD in the spring.
  • Choose and request appropriate instructional materials for the course.
  • Review student medical notes as needed (i.e., allergies/other medical needs).
  • Develop an environment that encourages engagement, collaboration, and academic risk‑taking.
  • Support and supervise teaching assistant's engagement with students.
  • Maintain program standard of student supervision.
  • Complete end‑of‑course student evaluations based on learning objectives and CTD guidelines.
  • Learn and implement CTD Policies and Procedures.
  • Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.
  • Assume program‑related responsibilities (e.g., training) as requested by CTD administrators.
