Overview
:
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator and/or designee, Camp Counselors supervise campers, ensuring their safety, development, and well‑being. Counselors maintain schedules, facilitate lesson plans, organize small and large group activities, and prepare recreational facilities. They monitor recreational activities, coordinate youth or teen day camps, and work cooperatively with all camp and building staff.
- Complete all required paperwork by stated deadlines.
- Complete all required trainings.
- Read and follow updated policies and procedures.
- Communicate concerns or issues directly to the Camp Director.
- Work cooperatively with camp and building staff.
- Lead indoor and outdoor recreational activities, including arts & crafts, games, sports, and field trips.
- Supervise participants in all programs, providing instruction and ensuring safety.
- Assist in maintaining records and monitor participants’ medical needs.
- Provide public relations and customer service to parents/guardians for a positive camp experience.
- Report accidents, incidents, or injuries immediately to the Assistant Directors.
- Maintain and care for equipment and supplies; report broken or unsafe items.
- Follow Camp Handbook guidelines and enforce policies and rules under Assistant Director supervision.
- Assist in training new camp counselors.
- Maintain a positive attitude and support staff morale.
- Other related work as assigned by the Coordinator or Director.
- Group supervision of campers with attention to program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character, and skill development.
- Lead indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
- Promote camper participation in all activities.
- Set a good example in all camp responsibilities.
- Assist in maintaining a variety of records and inventory of supplies.
- Ensure medical needs of campers are known and addressed.
- Handle incident reporting and safety compliance.
Work primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor activities in varying weather conditions. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, or 20 pounds constantly. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, kneel, bend, stand, walk, talk, hear, feel, smell, climb, and maintain balance as required. No significant environmental hazards.
Requirements- Minimum age of 17 years.
- Completion of 10th grade by the start of camp.
- Strong interest, maturity, and judgment working with children in an outdoor setting.
- Knowledge and experience in camp-related activities preferred.
- Team‑player, responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and willing to learn.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Internet).
