Salary

  • Minimum Hiring Annual Salary: $70,610.00
  • Maximum Hiring Annual Salary: $76,259.00

To attain the maximum annual salary, employee must meet all minimum qualifications plus:

  • 5 (five) years of additional applicable work experience and/or degrees higher than minimum qualification degree. Degrees higher than the minimum qualification degree can be used in combination with additional work experience.
  • A combination of related education, on-the-job work experience, certifications and/or licenses that results in a candidate successfully meeting the minimum qualifications of the position, may be considered.

Job Description

The Flight Instructor provides one-on-one flight and/or simulation instruction to students.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Chief Flight Instructor in one-on-one flight instruction.
  • Complete aircraft systems check-off before and after flights.
  • Follow College and department procedures for student evaluation and grading.
  • Evaluate and document student performance.
  • Report student progress and any procedural or mechanical problems regarding flights.
  • Comply with the Flight Operations Manual and safety requirements as provided by the Aviation Department and the FAA.
  • FAA Compliance Duties
    • Audit student records to ensure that all minimum flight times have been met, including all total time, solo time, cross-country, and night flight time.
    • Maintain currency and proficiency as required by the FAA.
    • Ensure compliance and records in accordance with parts 61, 141, and applicable FAA Advisory Circulars.
    • Student Records and Student Endorsements.
    Certified Flight Instructor Duties
    • Perform CFI responsibilities and duties.
    • Provide one-on-one flight instruction to students in aircraft and flight training devices in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations Part 61 and 141, FAA-approved syllabi, and Aims Flight Operations Manual.
    • Provide preflight briefings and post-flight debriefings.
    • For training in aircraft, supervise students’ pre-flight aircraft inspection, make aircraft airworthiness decisions.
    • Determine when student is ready for and authorize and supervise first solo flight, authorize via written log-book endorsement all student solo flights, supervise all levels of training.
    • Evaluate and document students’ flight skills, judgement, and knowledge for each lesson and assign a grade for that lesson; calculate students’ final course grade based on department and college guidelines.
    • Keep supervisor advised of students’ progress.
    • Ensure that all training and flight activities are performed in a safe and secure manner per Federal Aviation Regulations.
    • Maintain proficiency and currency as required by the FAA.
    Departamental Support
    • Serve as a mentor to students and new instructors.
    • Assist with instructor interviews, training, quality, and general oversight.
    • Participate in special event days.
    • Attend department meetings, FAA inspections, FSDO meetings, and FAA Safety Team meetings.
    Other Duties as Assigned
