Nature of Work: The Public Works Maintenance Technician‑Streets is under general supervision and performs a wide variety of semi‑skilled and skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s streets. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from level I or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience.
Public Works Maintenance Technician‑Streets I: ($23.76‑$26.40/hour) Entry‑level class. Employees are not required to have directly related work experience. Work is observed and reviewed during performance and upon completion. Once trained in specific tasks, employees are expected to work with limited supervision.
Public Works Maintenance Technician‑Streets II: ($24.20‑$29.04/hour) Mid‑level class. Employees assigned to this class are expected to perform a wide variety of skilled and technical assignments related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets. Positions at this level may oversee moderate projects and must be willing to train less experienced technicians.
Public Works Maintenance Technician‑Streets III: ($26.62‑$31.94/hour) Advanced class. Employees are expected to perform a wide variety of skilled and technical assignments related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of water, stormwater, and street infrastructure with minimal instruction. Positions at this level will oversee moderate to complex projects and train less experienced technicians.
Essential Duties, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Public Works Maintenance Technician‑Streets I- Employee possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all essential duties safely and satisfactorily, including municipal governance, teamwork, problem‑solving, relationship‑building, customer service, detail orientation, technology/equipment proficiency, policy adherence, time management, result orientation, data research and analysis, decision‑making, self‑motivation, stewardship, integrity, and upholding our EDGE core values.
- Ability to listen, read, understand, and communicate in English both orally and in writing, including correspondence, report writing, and emails.
- Maintain good attendance, punctuality, and communicate effectively for scheduling conflicts or leave per city policy.
- Perform street surface maintenance, construction, and repair; break and remove pavement; excavate, shovel, haul, and load materials; maintain drainage; clear overgrowth; identify basic problems; patch asphalt surfaces; grade and maintain dirt and gravel roads; mow, weed, and trim rights‑of‑way; maintain landscaping; perform temporary traffic control; respond to emergency water main and line breaks and leaks; conduct daily maintenance such as greasing equipment and vehicles;
assist in basic vehicle and equipment maintenance; remove snow with plows and de‑ice streets; operate vehicles and equipment including CDL vehicles, backhoes, excavators, graders, rollers, trucks, and more; operate hand and power tools; patrol and inspect ditch system facilities; clean debris; repair infrastructure; locate utility lines; dispose trash; maintain stormwater facilities; conduct CCTV inspections; be on 24‑hour rotating on‑call status;
assist in special collection events; apply herbicides and pesticides; install and maintain traffic signs; enter confined spaces with proper PPE; perform weekend, evening, and holiday work as required; assist in irrigation ditch inspections; assist other city departments; conduct periodic shutoffs of water to customers; possess knowledge of relevant laws and safety; operate all assigned…
