CITY OF EVANS EMPLOYMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
The Parks Technician I, II, III is a full-time, non-exempt position in the Public Works & Utilities department, Parks Division. Reports to the Parks Superintendent and Field Services Manager. Salary range: $25.52 - $31.94 per hour. Opening date:
Friday, January 16, 2026. Closing date:
Friday, January 30, 2026. The division may staff at levels I, II, or III based on experience and qualifications.
- Perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in maintenance, repair, and construction of City parks, athletic fields, irrigation systems, and related public facilities.
- Work under general supervision with potential advancement from level I; external hires may be considered with related experience.
- For Parks Technician I: complete assigned duties with limited supervision after training; observe and review work during and after performance.
- For Parks Technician II: perform skilled and technical maintenance tasks; oversee moderately complex tasks/projects; mentor less experienced technicians.
- For Parks Technician III: perform advanced, complex tasks with minimal instruction; oversee major projects; mentor and train others.
- Lead or supervise seasonal employees as assigned.
- Perform park maintenance tasks including irrigation, mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, debris removal, graffiti removal, restroom janitorial tasks, and snow/ice removal as required.
- Conduct safety inspections of facilities, playgrounds, equipment, and grounds; report damages and assist in repairs.
- Operate a wide range of equipment and vehicles used in parks construction and maintenance; perform basic mower maintenance and tool upkeep.
- Assist with cemetery operations as needed, including locating spaces, preparing excavations, and assisting with interments per safety and ceremonial protocols.
- Locate park-managed utilities and participate in safety inspections of parks and open spaces.
- Participate in special events, emergency response, and on-call rotations; work weekends, holidays, and after-hours as assigned.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, professional development, and adherence to City policies and EDGE values.
- High School diploma or equivalent; combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- One year of related work experience.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid/CPR, Confined Space, and CDOT Flagger certifications within six months of hire.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in public/municipal sector.
In addition to the above: two years of related experience in parks, landscaping, or a closely related field;
Sustainable Landscaping Management (SLM) Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months; proficiency operating standard park equipment; one or more related certifications approved by the Parks Superintendent.
- Skills in identifying, reporting, and managing field issues; basic understanding of plant processes; equipment maintenance coordination with fleet manager and parks superintendent.
- Ability to perform irrigation repair and adjustment tasks; independent judgment as appropriate; may lead parks staff as assigned.
- Demonstrated proficiency in safe and efficient operation of standard parks maintenance equipment (wide-area mowers, zero-turn, stand-on mowers, mini excavators, skid steers, plow trucks, etc.).
- Ability to lead parks crews in all operations; train and motivate staff; solve problems; advanced pruning and irrigation understanding; pesticide application safety.
- Independent prep and stripe of athletic fields; proficient operation of advanced equipment.
- High School diploma or equivalent; related combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- One year of related work experience.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid and CPR, Confined Space, and CDOT Flagger certifications within six months of hire.

In Addition To Previous Requirements: two years of directly related experience in parks, landscaping, or closely related field;

In Addition To Previous Requirements: four years of directly related experience;
Class B commercial driver’s license; two certifications from approved options (e.g., Certified Playground Inspector, Certified Park and Recreation Professional, irrigation or pesticide certifications, ISA Arborist, NALP, etc.); advanced proficiency with park equipment.
Preferred: four additional relevant certifications related to the assignment.
