Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; a four 10-hour day schedule may be available.

NATURE OF WORK:

The Senior Construction Inspector works under general direction and is responsible for administering CIP maintenance contracts, inspecting public and private construction projects, performing utility locates, managing citywide right‑of‑way and traffic control permits, and conducting related inspections. Responsible for the Engineering Department projects, serving as a liaison to utility companies, explaining and enforcing City policies, procedures, and specifications; and performing other technical work, including the documentation of engineering plans, drafting, and production of charts, maps and drawings.

Provides project management and engineering support services for the City’s capital maintenance projects. Employees will coordinate the completion of maintenance projects to ensure conformance with City standards and specifications, and work within City rights‑of‑way.

  • Responsible for contract administration, management, oversight, organization, development, and data collection of engineering contracts specifically related to the City Capital Improvement maintenance programs.
  • Estimates quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Monitors construction project progress and ensures conformance to design, specifications, standards, and safety on project/construction sites. Awareness of OSHA trenching and shoring safety, and confined space entry requirements.
  • Assists in the review of proposed Development Plans for general conformance with overall City Master Plans and specific conformance with City Engineering Standards and Details.
  • Conducts utility locates, research City and County records for existing ownerships, deeds, easements and right‑of‑way easements and utility locations.
  • Conducts construction inspections of capital improvement projects, private development projects, capital maintenance projects, and traffic control setups. Conducts construction plan reviews and assists with the upkeep of the City’s standards and specifications.
  • Conducts initial and final acceptance walkthroughs of all public and private infrastructure projects. Tracking developer performance bonds, developer contributions, and asset acceptance post two‑year warranty acceptance.
  • Provides surveying, construction, right‑of‑way easements and technical advice regarding design and construction.
  • Analyzes pavement management data and computes results and maps to assist with decision making for various maintenance projects. Working knowledge of PAVER or similar pavement management software relating to pavement lifecycle management is beneficial to this responsibility.
