Position Overview:

This is a skilled position responsible for performing skilled laborer duties, assisting the heavy equipment operator to lay and/or dig up pipe in the ground. Pipes include utility/conduit, water, and sewer lines. May also operate various utility equipment within trained capacity.
By doing so you'll be playing an important role as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built.
Location:
Eugene, OR is homebase. Travel to Roseburg and Salem as needed.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
* Must be a current member or able to join Laborers#737.
* Operate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.
* Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
* Shovel earth/dirt to prepare ground trenches for pipes.
* May dig up existing ground pipes and other debris with manual tools as needed.
* Guide pipes into place while equipment operator maneuvers pipes attached with chains/guide wires.
* Attach trench box to chains/guide wires so it can be lowered or lifted by the equipment operator.
* Attach pipes to chains/guide wires.
* Cut pipe and connect pipe using misc. tools, lubricants, glue/grout.
* Build couplings, connectors, and mechanical joints using parts and tools.
* Set up and move laser level/tripod and pipe lasers.
* Perform job site clean-up.
* Fence off job site areas for safety purposes. Set up barricades and safety cones.
* Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
* Keep machines clean and maintained.
* Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
* Keep time and material records.
* Travel to and from various locations.
* Routinely assist other members of the workforce in different areas of production.
* May operate heavy equipment to include front end loader, excavator, backhoe, or other equipment as needed.
* Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.
* Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
* Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
* Regular and timely attendance.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Minimum Qualifications
* Must have a valid Oregon Driver's license.
* Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
* Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
* Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
* Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
* Demonstrates the ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.
* Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
* Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications
* 1-2 years' previous related experience in pipe laying in a construction setting.

* Regularly exposed to traffic hazards and moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
* The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, however, PPE will be provided by our team to keep you safe. Please provide your own pair of steel-toed boots.
* Job requires the following motions: bending, hammering, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, throwing. Walking and standing occupy most of the workday.
