Job Overview
The Formulation Chemist/QALeadwill play a critical role in administering quality assurance processes and is responsible for developing, testing, and optimizing chemical formulations for products such as fertilizers (liquids and dries), soil blends, and other agricultural or industrial materials. This role ensures that formulations meet performance, safety, regulatory, and cost requirements while supporting scale-up for manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities- Product Development: Modify existing formulations to improve performance, stability, or cost efficiency. Design and develop new formulations based on project requirements and market trends.
- Testing & Analysis: Conduct laboratory tests to evaluate physical and chemical properties of formulations. Perform compatibility, stability, and shelf-life studies. Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment regularly to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Documentation & Compliance: Prepare detailed formulation records, test reports, and technical documentation. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Assist in developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab operations and QA processes.
- Scale-Up & Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with production teams to transition formulations from lab to full-scale manufacturing. Troubleshoot formulation issues during production runs.
- Quality Assurance: Develop and implement quality control procedures for raw materials and finished products. Maintain accurate records for audits and certifications.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 2–5 years in formulation development and/or previous QA or lab experience (agriculture or similar industries preferred).
- Skills: Strong knowledge of chemical properties, mixing techniques, and analytical methods. Proficiency with lab equipment (pH meters, conductivity meters, LECO, FIA, ICP, HPLC etc.) and software for data analysis. Excellent problem-solving and project management skills. Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques and practices. Basic understanding of plant nutrient formulations and raw materials. Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Ability to work both independently and in a team setting. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Knowledge of safety protocols for handling chemicals and hazardous materials. Able to stand, reach, bend, crouch, duck and lift up to 60 lbs as necessary. Travel required 10-20%.
