This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.
Preservation Quest is seeking a volunteer experienced in Data Science or a similar field to help us with the first steps to develop an AI tool called Infinite Lives that is a compendium of over 3,000+ medical video game academic articles, historical video game data from the 1960's on, and much more. The tool covers the use of video games to treat everything from depression, pain management, and autism, which our current Data Scientist needs assistance with expanding via things such as code review and general development.
Infinite Lives is being created through our Games Saving Gamers initiative that among much else doesn't just begin and end with the tool, but also encompasses podcasts with respected people in the field of video game medical applications, and where we highlight stories of how they haven't just helped people, but have actually saved lives.
For Infinite Lives, we've an accomplished Data Scientist / Chief Data Officer who built and is actively maintaining it: you won't be alone in your endeavors and your expertise will be respected in any and all forms. When we say respect, we mean that we'll work together and implement, understand, talk out, and allow your abilities to shine. You as a person are special and we hope to make magic together.
Preservation Quest! Mission:
Our mission is to save every video game. Ever. We don't mean just the games, but the stories of how video games have impacted children, and adults in forms unique to countries like Brazil, Nigeria, New Zealand, the US, and the world. They also alleviate pain, suffering, and have the ability to vastly improve the lives of people no matter their race or creed.
Take third degree burns for example, a condition so traumatic that "few injuries involve more painful and numerous procedures than severe burns." However "[...] adding immersive VR to opioids resulted in significantly more reduction in pain [...] than opioids alone [...]" "I think one kid described it best, ‘[... the pain is] just white noise.’ He said [while having the dressings on his burns changed.]
‘I wasn’t thinking about anything, I was just shooting snowballs.’ " Help us save not only the video games that have had such a profound effect on cultures the world over, but to also use them to bring hope, joy, and relief to people who need it the most.
