Overview

Lab Assistant
WVCI is looking for a Lab Assistant to join the laboratory team at our Eugene, OR clinic. The role will focus on specimen collection, primarily venous blood draws, and support the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Pay scale: $19.00-$29.00. Actual rate depends on experience, education, responsibilities, location, performance, and other factors.

Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Assure pre-authorizations and complete appropriate consent (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests.
  • Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure that all supplies are viable before use for patient collection.
  • Prepare specimens to be sent to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
  • Process incoming orders for lab testing.
  • Update and file all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
  • Operate designated laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Use equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently. Maintain equipment and work area as directed.
  • May perform waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel. Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator, and reagents for waived lab tests.
  • Comply with regulatory agency standards. Adhere to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.
  • Properly dispose of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and restock the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Licensure/Certification from an accredited school of phlebotomy strongly preferred.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires full range of body motion particularly manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Adequate finger dexterity and feeling to perform keyboarding and substantial repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Must be able to view computer screen and printed material accurately. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
