OverviewVeeco is seeking an ambitious Senior Field Service Engineer eager to learn Veeco’s technology and drive customer satisfaction through support. The successful candidate will be responsible for installation, calibration, preventive maintenance, metrology equipment repairs and general upkeep of semiconductor equipment. This position will involve considerable domestic travel and possibly international travel. Day‑to‑day duties will primarily be at a major customer site in Eugene, Oregon.
Local candidates preferred, though relocation assistance is available.
- Lead and/or participate in the installation, upgrade, testing, warranty, and repair of equipment, following all customer and Veeco protocols related to safety and security.
- Mentor and train junior Veeco FSEs as needed, with guidance from the Service Manager.
- Isolate and resolve equipment and system malfunctions and take corrective action.
- Create, develop, implement, and proliferate new processes, methods, and designs.
- Develop relationships with the customer to ensure high customer satisfaction and retention.
- Serve as contact for onsite activities, communications, and provide support in all matters related to the equipment, technical, and field aspects for the targeted site.
- Report all tool actions/events and daily activities in field service reports such as the Veeco Service Portal (VSP) and follow up on reports as needed.
- Adhere to safety, confidentiality (IP), and travel/expense policies.
- Maintain constant communication with teammates and Field Service Manager.
- Review outlook email, calendar, meeting attendance, MS Teams communications, etc.
- Spend up to 12 hours a day, more typically 8 hours, working in a cleanroom suit with hood and face covering.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Travel domestically with at least 2‑4 weeks’ notice; occasional 1‑week notice or more frequent travel possible.
- Must be flexible for emergency call‑in work, although not typical.
- U.S. citizenship is required (ITAR).
- Bachelor’s degree and/or six to eight years of experience in the semiconductor industry; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of vacuum, chemistry, electronics, microchip processing, gas delivery systems, robotics, mechanics, or similar semiconductor process equipment such as AMAT, NOVELLUS, AIXTRON, EBARA, LAM, etc. is preferred.
- Experience supporting MOCVD tools is a huge preference.
- Strong aptitude for reading and interpreting electrical schematics and Piping & Installation Diagrams (PID’s).
- Mechanically inclined with strong aptitude for using hand tools on complex electrical/pneumatic/mechanical machinery.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, One Note, Edge, etc.) is a big plus.
- Positive attitude and excellent communication skills with the ability to speak with clarity and interface effectively with customer, management, and peers.
- Knowledge of machine vision systems, electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, robotics, and computer programming.
- System integration, test, and debug skills.
- Experience with semiconductor industry safety requirements (COHÉ and clean‑room protocols).
- Broad customer focus and commitment to resolve problems and make decisions based on business needs.
- Ability and desire to build excellent customer relationships.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet support deadlines in a multi‑tasking environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Not afraid of working on machines that use toxic/pyrophoric chemicals.
