The City of Eugene Public Works Department is looking for a positive and energetic Land Surveyor to manage survey-related functions and projects for the Engineering Division. The person must thrive in a team-oriented setting and demonstrate adaptability to a dynamic environment. The role is a blend of self-performed work on publicly funded projects and review of privately funded projects. Work is performed inside and outside of the office setting.

The person acts as project manager, working alongside other technicians and engineers. A strong sense of survey law, fundamentals, professional ethics and integrity is a must.

The position oversees technical and para-professional survey work performed by survey and engineering technicians, and performs professional surveying duties including developing and overseeing survey standards and practices, performing surveys,  boundary resolution, preparation of property description and exhibit maps, maintaining survey records, expanding horizontal and vertical control networks, developing and presenting survey training programs, and reviewing and approving surveys and land division plats for compliance with statutory requirements.

The successful candidate must be a team player and capable of working independently.  Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are a must along with strong drafting skills and knowledge of various survey software packages.  Preference will be given for registration as an Oregon Certified Water Rights Examiner and familiarity with Lane County Surveyor's Office practices and procedures.

This position reports directly to the Engineering Development Review Manager and helps coordinate land development activities and regulations.  This position works cohesively with capital project managers and city land managers.  The person in this position collaborates with many partners to ensure survey standards and regulatory requirements are met.  They are responsible for contributing to and implementing the vision, mission and goals of the organization.

Surveyor: $44.83 - $60.52 / hourly; $93,246.40 - $ / annually

Work Schedule:

The City of Eugene is shifting to a work environment of primarily in office work to foster collaboration and connection. New employees must work on site full time for the duration of their probationary period (typically 12 months). Following the probationary period employees may utilize a flexible working environment one day a week per the Alternative Work Policy.

Establishes survey standards and procedures for Engineering Division project teams; monitors compliance with standards and procedures.

As project manager, this position oversees and/or performs boundary surveys on City-owned properties and location surveys of public rights-of-way.

Manages City survey and right-of-way location records to ensure that they meet professional standards; establishes boundary and right-of-way locations for city properties and streets; provides updated records to County Surveyor's office.

Writes and interprets legal property descriptions and resolves problems resulting from inaccurate or inconclusive descriptions.

As project manager, maintains and expands horizontal and vertical control networks.

Reviews and approves land division plats on behalf of the city; participates in the review of land use applications and with establishing conditions for new development.

Serves as resource to Engineering Division project teams in preparation of legal descriptions, protection and/or replacement of survey monuments, and preparation of remonumentation surveys.
