The
Building Inspector position performs field inspections to assure that commercial and industrial construction complies with structural, mechanical and related codes and regulation. Provides technical assistance to the public, contractors, and design professionals regarding structural or mechanical specialty codes and may provide lead direction to other structural or mechanical code specialist employees. This position will be filled as a Structural/Mechanical Inspector.

Salary: $39.03 - $48.66 hourly / $81,182.40 - $ Annually
The City of Eugene determines starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials. This process is consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act (OEPA).

Actual job sites are located throughout City of Eugene as business requires. Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite for work as needed to meet business needs.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the flexibility per business need

Bilingual Pay Benefit:

- Safely operate a City-owned vehicle to and from inspection sites located around the city daily.
- Performs field inspections for structural or mechanical area of construction inspection; notifies builders and owners of code violations by writing field correction memos and/or letters to customers.
- May provide direction to other structural or mechanical code specialists and the public with interpretation and application of codes and resolution of problems.
- May plan and conduct training for co-workers and the public in structural or mechanical code requirements in one or more areas of building construction.
- Performsandmaycoordinatetherecordkeepinganddocumentation,suchasdataentry,ofinspectionsandplansreviewsinstructuralormechanicalareaofconstruction.
- Researchesplanreviewsandstructuralormechanicalcodeenforcementactivitiesfromautomatedrecords anddivisiondocuments.
- Mayplan,assign,leadandreviewtheworkofassignedstaff.
- Mayactincapacityofthesupervisorinthesupervisor'sabsenceorasdirected.
- Assistscustomers,contractors,homeowners,architects,engineersanddesignersbyphoneoratcounterregardingtheinspectionprocess,constructionstandardsandstructuralormechanicalcodes.
- Mayattendmeetingsandfunctionasliaisonwithotherpartsofthe Cityorganizationandthepublic;assistswithdivision'spublicrelationsout-reachwork.
- May prepare staff notes for cases pertaining to field activity in structural or mechanical specialty; makes recommendations on alternate materials and methods requests.
- Assists plan reviewers, supervisors or the building official in preparation of staff notes for cases pertaining to field activity in assigned area; make recommendations on alternate materials and methods requests and may attend meetings, relating to cases arising from inspections in assigned area.
- May assist Building and Permit Services management in enforcement cases by appearing in court as witness and assisting support staff in preparation of case documentation.
- Actively supports and respects diversity in the workplace.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
