Position Purpose

To provide high‑quality instruction that meets established learning aims and outcomes for students in Anthropology courses. Faculty provide a quality learning experience for all Lane Community College students and act as teacher of record and facilitator of learning.

Essential Functions
  • Support student learning through activities that include: compliance with College policies, leave time, timesheet completion, textbook ordering, etc.
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching.
  • Participate collegially in faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations.
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community.
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Curriculum Delivery
  • Provide high‑quality classroom instruction.
  • Create, develop, and revise course content and materials.
  • Establish learning outcomes and assess using appropriate tools.
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment.
  • Develop all class syllabi and materials in a form that can be directly delivered to students.
  • Confer with students on course materials.
  • Deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats.
Online Teaching and Student Support
  • Engage within the online environment for regular and substantive interaction.
  • Monitor student progress and provide coaching and assistance.
  • Review and grade all student work with timely feedback.
  • Respond to student inquiries promptly.
  • Ensure all materials meet Section 508 guidelines.
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online.
Equity and Inclusion
  • Demonstrate social justice values through inclusive practices.
  • Respectfully apply inclusive language regardless of demographics.
  • Assist with ADA compliance and support accessibility.
  • Show active concern for students, staff, and the public.
Qualifications
  • Required

    Education:

    Master’s in Anthropology from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Conditions of Employment:
    Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and be a resident of Oregon.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Education:

    Graduate coursework in human evolution, hominid fossil record, archaeology, or cultural anthropology.
  • Preferred Experience:

    Teaching experience with community college students, online teaching, and learning management systems.
