Position Purpose

To provide high‑quality instruction in History courses (both online and in‑class) that meets established learning aims and outcomes for Lane Community College students. Faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of delivering a quality learning experience and serving as the teacher of record and facilitator of learning.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, including leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering, and related functions.
  • Sustain currency in the discipline and innovate in teaching.
  • Participate collegially in the faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Maintain office hours and meet College expectations.
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab.
  • Problem‑solve and manage sensitive information with FERPA awareness; maintain confidentiality.
  • Provide high‑quality classroom instruction and course content creation, development, and revision.
  • Establish learning outcomes aligned with core ability outcomes, assess using appropriate tools, and use results to inform program and course improvement.
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment, including multicultural and diversity awareness.
  • Teach and develop syllabi and course materials in a format that can be directly delivered to students.
  • Confer with students on course materials; deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats.
  • Engage in the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
  • Monitor student progress, provide coaching and assistance, review and grade work, and deliver timely feedback.
  • Ensure all materials meet Section 508 guidelines.
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in History from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate coursework in European and Mediterranean History.
  • Graduate coursework in United States History.
  • Graduate coursework in United States Women’s History.
  • Teaching experience with community college student populations.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Experience with learning management systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of instructional design, delivery, and learning theory.
  • Ability to understand and carry out Lane Community College’s commitment to student success, lifelong learning, and public needs.
  • Ability to adapt courses to meet diverse learning styles and needs of students with disabilities.
