Position Information

Lane Community College’s Social Science Division is seeking to expand its part‑time faculty GIS pool, both online and in‑classroom. The primary responsibility of the GIS Instructor is to provide quality instruction in a full range of community college GIS courses, including Digital Earth, GIS 1, and GIS 2.

Hourly. Initial placement determined by application. Part‑time faculty benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability and paid sick leave, with eligibility for full contracted benefits after meeting criteria.

Division Information:
The Social Science Division seeks instructors who have a passion for teaching and teaching styles that support student success. Instructors must follow Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.

Responsibilities
  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures; accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions.
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching.
  • Participate collegially in the faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations.
  • Maintain student record requirements, attendance, grades, and other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Problem‑solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to student privacy needs.
  • Provide high‑quality classroom instruction.
  • Create, develop, and revise course content and materials.
  • Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at program and course levels.
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment, including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues.
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students.
  • Confer with students on course materials.
  • Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats.
Online Teaching and Student Support
  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
  • Monitor student progress and provide coaching and assistance to struggling students toward success.
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely, substantive feedback.
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries.
  • Ensure that all materials meet Section 508 guidelines.
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geography or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience with data collection, data analysis, and mapping in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop and related data analytic and mapping programs.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Currently work and reside in Oregon.
