This is a substitute position for transportation, working on Student Attendance Days.

Provides physical and behavioral care of special education students during transport to and from school. This individual attention is precipitated by specific needs that cannot be managed from the driver's seat. Performs activities involved in the safe boarding, riding and exiting of passengers.

Essential Functions
  • Observe and record behavioral management data as required.
  • Control aggressive student activity and encourage calm and orderly conduct.
  • Assist in implementing behavior management programs and following specific instructions of classroom teacher and/or other Special Education staff.
  • Assure that infants are secured into car seats during transportation and that they and their belongings are delivered safely to their parents.
  • Assist wheelchair passengers to board, ride and exit the bus.
  • Ability to learn and follow behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to handle physical care needs and mobility requirements of assigned student.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students.
  • Good observation and surveillance skills; ability to recognize potential problems and to take appropriate action.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
  • Previous training, education or experience in safety standards and behavioral management techniques.

    Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
