About The Job: Looking for a highly qualified candidate who can shadow a lead teacher as an assistant and then promote into a lead teacher position within 6 months.
Position Preschool Promise Lead Teacher (Full-time)
Position Primary PurposeTo successfully lead Preschool Promise classroom staff in providing an environment that is highly nurturing for a full-day group of preschoolers living at 200% of the poverty level. The lead teacher provides engaging and reinforcing activities, positive interactions, and an educational and culturally responsive environment for the children and families in the program. The lead teacher successfully directs staff in best practices for childhood education and supports them in developing effective skills and strategies to address the variety of needs in the classroom setting.
PrimaryFunctions
- Ensures children are safe at all times and engaged in developmentally appropriate play and activities.
- Provides leadership in the classroom through training and support of the team so that children meet developmental goals appropriate for their age.
- Engages in positive interactions and partnerships with families and engages in regular communication with families about child progress and successes.
- Collects necessary data for assessment tools such as AEPS.
- Ensures implementation of program curricula including Creative Curriculum and PATHS social-emotional curriculum.
- Oversees record keeping for children and family paperwork including enrollment paperwork and maintains other records related to Preschool Promise and the Oregon Office of Childcare.
- Enrolled in Oregon's Criminal Background Registry (C ) at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)./
- A fluent Spanish speaker is highly preferred.
- Step 8 or higher on Oregon Registry required OR.
- Bachelor's/Master's Degree in child/education-related field preferred.
- Two years of successful teaching in a preschool classroom (or other early learning setting) is preferred.
- Teaching experience that focuses on children with special needs preferred.
- Proven experience as a teacher with good communication and instructional skills.
- Able to direct a team of 2-3 teaching assistants in executing daily schedules, curriculum plans, and behavior management.
- Cool-tempered, friendly, and reliable.
- A balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen.
- An understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods.
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms.
- Good communication and instructional skills.
- Ability to act as a mediator between children.
- Current food handler's card and CPR/First Aid.

The Early Education Program (EEP) is Lane County’s largest specialized preschool organization. Since 1981, we have successfully served preschoolers with special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other developmental delays. In 2016, our organization expanded to also serve preschoolers from income-eligible families in the Eugene and Creswell communities through Oregon's Preschool Promise program. Currently, over 200 children attend our family of classrooms in Creswell, Eugene, Junction City, and Springfield.
