Department Summary

The Office of the Provost (OtP) is responsible for carrying out the academic mission of the University of Oregon. OtP works closely with faculty and staff to enhance academic excellence, student success, and the UO’s overall academic profile. Position

Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for Online and Distance Education, the Online Education Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty and graduate-employee instructors to design pedagogically sound curricula for online courses, giving thoughtful attention to the needs of students who learn in different ways and who come from different backgrounds. By means of group workshops as well as individual faculty consultations, the Instructional Designer will promote quality standards, high-impact educational practices, universal design for learning, and the effective use of technology for teaching and learning.

This position works closely with other instructional designers, a video producer, Learning Management System (LMS) specialists, and the Teaching Engagement Program to promote synergistic support for faculty who develop and teach online courses at UO.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 2 years of professional experience interpreting educational goals and developing effective pedagogical solutions.
Professional Competencies
  • Demonstrated understanding of instructional methods and curricular innovations in higher education.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated skill with multimedia authoring tools.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Organization and management skills: ability to prioritize multiple projects and ability to manage projects from conception through completion.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills. Ability to create content for print and web.
  • Ability to learn new software efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience working with faculty members, graduate employees, and students from diverse disciplines and cultures.
  • Experience delivering training in a workshop format.
  • Experience authoring content using principles of universal design.
  • Experience applying Quality Matters standards.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Knowledge of learning theories.
