Grade & Pipe Foreperson

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Grading and Pipe Foreperson. The ideal candidate will be an experienced construction professional looking for a challenging opportunity with an industry leader. In this role, you will supervise and coordinate construction activities for pipe installation and heavy civil construction projects.

Location

Eugene, OR is the home base. Travel to Roseburg and Salem as needed.

Shift

Days, nights, and weekends as required. Schedule varies based on business demands.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current member of Laborers#737 or Operators#701, or ability to join.
  • 3+ years experience in heavy civil construction including grading, excavation, underground utilities, site work.
  • Experienced leader skilled in managing personnel, scheduling, and equipment.
  • Strong commitment to coaching, mentoring, feedback, and maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent customer‑service skills and ability to work with a variety of personalities.
  • Proficient reading of blueprints, site specifications, and project plans.
  • Capable of performing basic math in all units of measure.
  • Safety‑mindful with good attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and all applicable company and state regulations.
  • Passes pre‑employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • Current U.S. authorization to work or ability to obtain it before the start date.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage personnel safely and effectively, providing onsite direction during the workday.
  • Plan, troubleshoot, and schedule daily work assignments, prioritize tasks, and requisition materials and equipment.
  • Maintain required written records, logs, progress reports, time and weight tickets, attendance records, and safety documentation.
  • Interpret blueprints, charts, maps, and other construction drawings and plans.
  • Review cost, quantity, and utilization reports to ensure efficient labor and equipment use.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors to schedule work and coordinate with the plant and dispatcher for materials, trucking, and labor.
  • Consult with other supervisors and engineers, attend meetings, perform on‑site inspections, and conduct weekly safety meetings.
  • Promptly communicate with supervisors about material flaws.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Perform other tasks as required to meet business needs.
  • Maintain regular, timely attendance and participate in an inclusive work environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent sitting, climbing, and hand use to signal and operate equipment.
  • Occasional standing, walking, crawling, kneeling, bending, and reaching with arms above shoulders.
  • Occasional lifting or moving up to 50‑75 lbs.
  • Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to traffic hazards and moving mechanical parts; outdoor weather conditions and vibration.
  • Frequent wet or humid environments.
  • Typically loud noise level; PPE provided.
  • Typical motions include bending, hammering, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, and throwing; walking and standing dominate the workday.
