Overview

True North Sports Camps offers year-round sports programming for boys and girls ages 2 to 14 in Toronto, Etobicoke and Oshawa. We offer baseball, flag football, basketball, soccer, multi-sport and hockey day camps as well as after-school and weekend programs during the fall, winter and spring. At True North, we believe that recreational sports are an important part of every child’s development and we make it our top priority to deliver a truly memorable experience.

True North Sports Camps was created by the founders of North Toronto Baseball Camp, and since 2007 our goal has remained the same: to provide the highest quality sports instruction in a fun, safe and encouraging environment.

While developing campers’ athletic skills is important, our core focus is creating a positive environment for participants, allowing them to have fun and forge lasting friendships.

Position Details

Camp operates weekly in July and August from 8:30am – 4:00pm (with extended care from 8:00am until 5:00pm) Monday to Friday. This summer camp will operate for 8 weeks.

Work Hours

You will be required to be on-site July & August from 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday; there will be some duties outside of these hours (mostly remotely).

Responsibilities

Assistant Directors are the second-in-command on-site leaders at each camp and assist the Program Directors with planning, organization and implementation of daily camp programming, while fostering a fun, inclusive and safe environment for all campers and staff. Responsibilities on-site and off-site include the following:

Pre-Camp (June – Part-Time, ~25 hours total)

  • Assist the Program Director with planning and execution of staff training (dates scheduled; attendance mandatory)
  • Attend supplemental training specific to on-site leadership staff (dates scheduled; attendance mandatory)
  • Work with the Program Director to ensure all required equipment and supplies are purchased, stored and organized at camp

During Camp (July & August – Full-Time)

  • Staff Management: communicate weekly schedules and daily reminders to coaches (including medical conditions, sun safety, hydration, etc.); facilitate start and end of day staff meetings; assist with coach evaluations and on-site CIT oversight
  • Programming: assist the Program Director to create and facilitate daily camp programming; collaborate with coaches to continuously improve programming
  • Camper and Family Interactions: manage camper check-in/check-out with support from the Program Director; communicate with parents, providing professional customer service; assist coaches with care for upset, homesick campers
  • First Aid and Camp Safety: work with the Program Director and coaches to ensure activities are safe; administer first aid as needed with support; keep records of incidents; maintain stocked first-aid kit
  • Miscellaneous: ensure camp-wide policies are followed; participate in regular meetings; track and organize equipment, shirts and prizes; assist with general camp management
Experience and Skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills from supervisory roles; ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Interpersonal skills to build rapport with campers, parents and coaches
  • Experience playing/coaching flag football and/or experience working with children in a supervisory role
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability
  • Ability to motivate staff and acknowledge contributions of others
  • Occasional evenings and weekends availability with the Camp Leadership Team
  • Certification:
    Standard First Aid and CPR C (if not already possessed)
Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications and will be competitive with comparable positions.
