Job description

Hire Art is helping our client hire a Technical Support Engineer to perform in-depth diagnostics on robot systems running Linux-based environments, restore services, and clearly document and escalate incidents to development teams when needed.

In this role, you’ll work directly on live systems, analyzing logs, troubleshooting via SSH, and supporting internal services to ensure operational reliability.

The ideal candidate is a technically curious, analytical problem-solver with strong communication skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting. You’re comfortable working hands-on in Linux environments, learning new tools quickly, and taking ownership of issues from diagnosis through resolution.

As a Technical Support Engineer, you'll:
  • Diagnose onboard robot systems via SSH, performing rapid triage and resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Review system health and logs (uptime, CPU, memory, disk usage, systemd status, journalctl, dmesg) and execute updates or service restarts as needed.
  • Maintain Linux-based systems (including NixOS where applicable), verify version integrity, and complete post-update health checks.
  • Use core command-line tools for configuration, navigation, and log collection (grep, awk, sed, tar, nano or vim, chmod or chown, tmux).
  • Support hardware-level troubleshooting by identifying faulty components and validating replacements.
  • Communicate effectively across teams using Slack and You Track, maintaining clear and accurate documentation of actions taken and findings.
  • Requirements

  • Basic but confident knowledge of Linux CLI and comfort operating production systems via SSH
  • Familiarity with systemd and journalctl
  • Clear, structured written communication skills for incident reporting and escalation
  • Nice to Have:
  • General understanding of how scripting (Bash/Python) works
  • Ability to learn domain-specific tools and hardware interfaces as needed
  • Benefits:
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (Hire Art) subsidized Healthcare Benefits
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • Hire Art covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package
  • Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. It will be onsite and available to candidates local to the Austin, TX area.

Hire Art values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas.
