The Drill Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining drilling equipment to support construction, utility installation, geotechnical, or infrastructure projects. This role requires safe equipment operation, accuracy in drilling locations and depths, coordination with crew members, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This position is open to candidates living anywhere in the United States. The role requires travel to project sites nationwide on a full-time basis.

Description- Operate drilling equipment such as horizontal directional drills
- Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance
- Read and interpret job plans, utility locates, and bore profiles
- Set up drill sites, including stabilizing equipment and preparing entry/exit pits
- Monitor drilling progress, pressures, and alignment
- Communicate with crew members to ensure accurate bore paths
- Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies
- Assist with locating underground utilities and potholing operations
- Maintain red lines, bore logs, and production reports
- Daily production entry in Ocius‑X or ArcGIS Fields Maps
- Troubleshoot mechanical or drilling issues and report major repairs
- Support job site setup, cleanup, and restoration of job sites
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Support other crew members as needed
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous drilling, HDD, excavation, or heavy equipment experience required
- Valid driver’s license; CDL required
- Knowledge of underground utility installation practices
- Ability to read construction drawings and locate marks
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety procedures
- Mechanical aptitude
- Willingness to travel or work overtime as needed
- HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) certification or industry recognized training
- Experience working near active roadways or railroad crossings
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Confined space or trench safety training
- OSHA Certification
- MOT Certification
- Bilingual abilities preferred
- Ability to work outdoors near active roadways or railroads in various weather conditions and on active construction sites
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs as needed
- Prolonged periods of driving, walking, standing, bending, and using hands/tools
- Exposure to noise, dust, mud, and weather
- Must wear required PPE on job sites and adhere to safety protocols
