Workshop Mechanic

Location: Rochford Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per year Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm

The Role

As a Workshop Mechanic
, you’ll take on a hands‑on role where every day brings something new. From power tools to small plant, petrol engines to electrics, you’ll diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and ensure their customers receive equipment they can trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and service a wide range of powered hire tools and small plant.
  • Troubleshoot electrical (240v & 110v), mechanical, and petrol/diesel engine faults.
  • Perform pre‑hire and post‑hire inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
  • Test and sign off repaired equipment for customer use.
  • Maintain accurate records using our workshop management system.
  • Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with Health & Safety standards.
  • Manage spares and consumables, advising on stock requirements.
  • Provide technical advice and occasional equipment demonstrations.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience as a Tool Mechanic, Plant Technician, or similar electro‑mechanical role.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across electrical systems, petrol/diesel engines, and mechanical faults.
  • Ability to read technical diagrams and use diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters).
  • Detail‑oriented with pride in high‑quality workmanship.
  • Knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, and safe workshop practices.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.
