Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Operations Field Support Technician will support the operations team with advanced fault diagnosis, maintenance, and technical support across power generation assets. The role involves working on reciprocating engines, generators, electrical distribution systems, gas processing equipment, and associated plant systems used in the 24/7 operation of landfill gas power stations.
This is a field-based role that requires flexibility, including participation in a rotational on-call schedule to provide support outside of standard working hours when required. Although predominantly Essex and Midlands based, this role will provide occasional support to our sister company based in Yorkshire.
Key Responsibilities Include:- Lead complex fault diagnosis and troubleshooting on reciprocating engine electrical and electronic control systems, instrumentation, LV and HV equipment, and balance-of-plant systems to improve power station performance and revenue.
- Support the 24/7 operation of generating units and ancillary equipment in accordance with operational procedures.
- Carry out planned and corrective maintenance on electrical, electronic, control, and instrumentation systems to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
- Follow established maintenance and operational procedures to ensure the continuous reliability and productivity of the power station.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions to operational issues, ensuring all modifications follow company Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Identify and recommend critical spare parts holdings for electrical, electronic, control, and instrumentation systems.
- Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to provide emergency support as required, ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations.
- Strong knowledge of plant maintenance, HV and LV electrical distribution systems, and operational processes, gained within a heavy engineering environment such as renewable energy, power generation, petrochemical, marine engineering (including Royal Navy), or chemical production.
- A time-served apprenticeship with a recognised qualification such as NVQ Level 3, HNC, or HND in an engineering discipline is preferred; however, relevant experience and technical competence will also be considered.
- Proven experience in fault finding, diagnostics, and repair of electrical, electronic, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a field-based technical role.
